Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located 3km (2 miles) west of Amesbury, on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. The structure consists of a ring of obelisks, each about 4.1m high, 2.1m wide, and weighing about 25 tons. The stones are located in the middle of the densest complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England. Although it is not known exactly why the monument was built, it has been determined that there were religious buildings around it in the past. [1]

Archaeologists believe that this building was built between 3000 BC and 2000 BC. The circular embankment and ditch, which constitutes the earliest phase of the monument, was formed in 3100 BC according to estimates. The radiocarbon dating method shows that the first Bluestones were found between 2400 BC and 2200 BC. [2] However, they may have been found as early as 3000 BC. Stonehenge, one of the most popular buildings in the UK, is considered the cultural symbol of the British. [3] It has been a legally protected Ancient Monument since 1882, when the law for the protection of historical monuments was first successfully enacted in England. The site and its surroundings were added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1986.
